4-6 Points

Context is present but could be improved. The research question maybe missing, and the thesis statement is present but could be improved.

7-8 Points

Context is appropriate and relevant to the research question.  The research question is clearly stated and a strong and relevant thesis illustrating three specific groups is present.  The research question is clearly stated and the thesis is clear and well organized.

Sources selected maybe irrelevant to the research question or the nature of each source is briefly mentioned but there is little analysis and evaluation of two sources with a limited discussion of the value and limitations

Appropriate and relevant sources have been selected. The nature of each source is briefly mentioned and there is some analysis and evaluation of two sources with discussion of the value and limitations-however this may need improvement.

Appropriate and relevant sources have been selected. The nature of each source is briefly mentioned and there is a detailed analysis and evaluation of two sources with explicit discussion of the value and limitations-relating to the origin, purpose, and or the content

The investigation is clear, coherent and effectively organized with topic sentences, paragraphs, cited evidence, and well-developed analysis that is focused on the question. Evidence from a range of sources is used effectively to support the Thesis. There is evaluation of different historical perspectives.
